FAITH FOUNDATIONS

FOR KIDS, YOUTH AND ADULTS

WHAT IS FAITH FOUNDATIONS?

Faith Foundations is our version of Sunday School. Acts 2:42 says, “And they devoted themselves to the apostles teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.”  This passage is our focus for the Faith Foundations time from 10:00-10:45 AM every Sunday morning.  We offer classes for children, youth and adults that meet people where they are in life in order to equip them to know Jesus through scripture and to take that knowledge and apply it to our lives.

FAITH FOUNDATIONS FOR KIDS

Nursery is intended for children from birth to kindergarten, but we encourage you to bring them into worship as soon as they are ready. During the 10:00 hour, children 3+ will participate in Faith Foundations (Sunday School) on the same floor as the nursery. You do not need to pick them up between worship and Faith Foundations. Our youngest children will have free play while our older ones will be able to have snack time, learn a short Bible lesson and do a related activity.

AGE 3 – open play area for drop-off; pick-up in room 104
AGES 4-K – pen play area for drop-off; pick-up in room 104

***NOTE: All children, birth to K, will check in and get picked up at the window.

Children will be welcomed into the first floor and be invited to play with friends for the first part of the Faith Foundations hour. After that, they will hear the Bible story, participate in worship, practice memorizing Scripture, and engage in a related craft or game.

1ST-2ND GRADE – room 301
3RD-4TH GRADE – start in room 301 and end in room 303

1st-4th graders will be invited to start Faith Foundations with a snack, free play, brick building, or crafts. Following this welcome time, kids will join together to hear the Bible story, worship, and then break off into smaller groups based on age. In small group, younger kids will participate in a related activity while older ones will have more time for discussion and memorization (still with fun activities!). Parents of 1st and 2nd grade students must pick up their children from room 301 at 10:45. 3rd and 4th grade will be dismissed on their own.

5TH-6TH GRADE – room 302

5th and 6th graders will have their own space this year. They will start their time with snacks and fellowship. After that, they will hear the Bible story and then divide into boys and girls small groups for discussion and prayer. 5th and 6th grade will be dismissed on their own at 10:45.

FAITH FOUNDATIONS FOR YOUTH

This year, we will combine middle school and high school students! We’ll meet in the Harbor House at 10 AM to enjoy fellowship and dive deep into the scriptures. We’ll be kicking off the spring with a 6-week series called The Greatness of God, a deep dive into the doctrines of aseity, infinity, Trinity, impassibility, sovereignty and providence. Following this study, we’ll do a split boys and girls study called Biblical Manhood and Womanhood.

FAITH FOUNDATIONS FOR ADULTS

2 KINGS

The Chapel – Taught by Pastor Kory

Pastor Kory will be continuing his expository class on 2 Kings.

Hybrid Class (Tater Family/Seven Last Words of Christ)

Room 201 – Taught by Dr. Clay Brown

Potatoes…or as we say in the south…Taters! Who are the “Taters” of the Bible? The speck-taters, the imi-taters, the agi-taters, the commen-taters? Which “Tater” are you in your spiritual walk? Dr. Clay Brown will be teaching about the “Tater Family” January and February. The semester will conclude with a study of the “Seven Last Words of Christ.” There were no accidents on the days surrounding Jesus’ death. Jesus’ last moments were not left up to chance. God chose the path; he selected the nails.

CELEBRATION OF DISCIPLINE

Room 202 – Taught by Ruling Elder Bill Hennessey

We will continue together down the path of spiritual growth as we explore Richard J. Foster’s Celebration of Discipline. Through this book, we will take a three-part journey in learning to apply the inward disciplines, the outward disciplines and corporate disciplines that are central spiritual practices of our Christian faith.

CHURCH LIFE CLASS (starts Feb 1)

Room 305 – Taught by Pastor Scott

Interested in becoming a member of FPCOS? Or just learning more about the church? Church Life Class covers the biblical foundations of the church, church history, theology, sacraments of baptism and The Lord’s Supper, and membership. Space is limited and registration is required. PRAYER

Room 311 – Led by Gregg Bray

The prayer class will continue its significant mission by praying each week for individual needs, our church vision/family, our nation, and other nations who need the saving grace of Jesus Christ.

IN HIS IMAGE (Jen Wilkin)

Room 309 – Taught by Ruling Elder Maureen De Jonge and Janet Chapman (women’s study)

Elder Maureen De Jonge and Janet Chapman will be teaching a study based on the book In His Image by Jen Wilkin. This women’s class is designed to study what it means to look like Jesus. The class will focus on 10 attributes of God and reflect on how they should become progressively more evident in our hearts as we follow Jesus.
